Earth Day 2016 Theme: Trees for Earth

Insights

In 1969 at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco, peace activist John McConnell proposed a day to honor the Earth and the concept of peace. Coinciding with the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere, his vision came true when the first Earth Day was celebrated on March 21, 1970.

Fast-forward to 1990, Earth Day went international and the event mobilized 200 million people in 141 countries. At this time, Earth Day effectively lifted the status of environmental issues onto the world stage.

Now that Earth Day 2016 is upon us – with the 50th anniversary in the horizon in 2020 – the Earth Day Network is focusing on the key theme of “Planting Trees for Earth.” As the coordinators of Earth Day, the organization aims to motivate organizations and individuals to plant 7.8 billion trees across the globe.

The Earth Day Network chose to focus on trees because they absorb excess and harmful CO2 and other pollutants from our atmosphere, as well as help communities achieve long-term economic and environmental sustainability.

For Earth Day 2016, we are calling on large global corporations, advocacy groups, NGOs and world leaders to embrace the new .earth top-level domain (TLD).

By doing so, you are ensuring that environmental-related messages stand out in Internet search results, as well as build trust through a community by creating quality content.

Taking advantage of an .earth domain will also help further spread the word about the need to enhance environmental activities across the planet, which can result in the action needed to ensure a stable future for all.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to truly help save the planet and support Earth Day 2016. Please be sure to check out the availability and pricing of your desired .earth domain through our registrar partners.
