.earth Web Domain Users Participate in the 2024 NASA International Space Apps Challenge

Insights

The NASA International Space Apps Challenge recently announced the finalist of its annual global hackathon event.

Each October, over the course of two days, coders, entrepreneurs, scientists, designers, storytellers, makers, builders, artists, and technologists from around the world come together and create in-person and virtual teams to solve challenges using open-source data from NASA and its Space Agency Partners.

With this year’s theme being “The Sun Touches Everything,” NASA Space Apps challenge invited participants to consider the far-reaching influence of the Sun on Earth and space science.

In addition, over the last several years, the NASA International Space Apps Challenge has allowed participants to use the .earth web domain to showcase their projects. Many participants use the Earth observation data to develop solutions to issues facing our world today.

While the .earth domain users did not make it to the finalist list, there were several participants who created highly dynamic websites using the .earth web domain. Following are some examples:

  • SpaceOdyssee.Earth: Earning an honorable mention from NASA, this project addresses a significant gap in the educational tools available for understanding our solar system, particularly focusing on planets, Near-Earth Asteroids (NEAs), Near-Earth Comets (NECs), and Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHAs). Check out this project’s .earth website here.
  • Pandainitiative.Earth: This project harnesses cutting-edge drone technology to plant trees and monitor deforestation, ensuring a greener future for our planet. Check out this project’s .earth website here.
  • ElementaryRoots.Earth: Using origami engineering, this innovative greenhouse was made for growing plants for supplementary nutrients in places where resources are scarce. Check out this project’s .earth website here.
  • Seamo.Earth: This project is an innovative AI-powered platform that transforms ocean data into intelligence by using advanced machine learning to identify, count, and measure marine ecosystems. Check out this project’s .earth website here.
  • Nomads-NASA.Earth: As today’s climate crisis is not gender neutral, this project is based on a heat map that shows how countries with higher preparedness for the climate change have better gender equality, and countries with lower gender equality are more affected by climate change. Check out this project’s .earth website here.

You don’t have to be a Space Apps Challenge participant to use the .earth web domain to showcase your innovative efforts to help save the future of our planet. Click here to secure your own .Earth domain name.
