SEC Should Strengthen Required Climate Risk Disclosures, Georgetown Law Professor

.Earth Domains Serve as Foundation for Communicating Climate Risks

Earth Day 2022 Pricing Promotion for “Investing in Our Planet” Ending on June 30th

On June 17th, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) officially closed the public comment period around the proposed rulemaking to enhance and standardize climate-related disclosures for investors.

As we have previously highlighted, Climate Risk Disclosures require certain climate-related disclosures in their registration statements and periodic reports. This includes information about climate-related risks that are likely to have a material impact on their businesses.

While many would assume that the business community would come out against these disclosures, the reality is that many believe that they are vital to the future health of our planet.

For example, David A. Super, professor of law at Georgetown Law, and former general counsel for the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, recently authored an Op-Ed with The Hill making a case for the SEC to strengthen the current measures.

“With both the impacts of climate change and the strategies for combating it touching so many facets of our lives, ordinary investors are ill-equipped to recognize most investment risk related to climate,” said Super in the Op-Ed. “The days when climate change concerned only environmentalists are long gone. Those in many other fields — very much including finance — must think carefully about its implications for their work.”

For Earth Day 2022, we launched a special pricing promotion to reinforce the theme of “Investing in Our Planet,” and urge companies to consider using the .Earth domain to support their Climate Risk Disclosure efforts.

Specifically, .Earth domains are ideal for developing Climate Risk Disclosure-related micro-sites that showcase a wide-range of content – from blog posts to white papers to company climate mitigation manifestos, and more.

On June 30, 2022, our registrar partners are officially ending special pricing for one-year registrations of standard .Earth domain names starting at under $10.00 USD.

Companies looking to communicate their efforts around Climate Risk Disclosures can take advantage of this special offer through our comprehensive list of global registrar partners below:
