In yet another reckless assault on the environment, Trump is selling off America’s forests to corporate interests under the false pretense of wildfire prevention and job creation.
Trump’s new executive orders boosting logging on federal lands and restricting timber imports will worsen wildfires, fail to revive the timber industry, and devastate public lands.
More logging won’t stop wildfires – it will intensify them. Science shows that removing trees increases wind speeds, dries out forests, and spreads flammable grasses. The real drivers of catastrophic fires are climate change, fire suppression policies, and invasive species, not a lack of logging.
Economically, this plan is a dead end. U.S. timber production has declined due to falling demand, closed sawmills, and a shrinking workforce. Tariffs on Canadian lumber won’t change that overnight, and businesses won’t invest in sawmills for an industry with no long-term future.
Beyond the false promises, this plan is an environmental disaster. Logging releases massive amounts of carbon, threatens endangered species, and reduces forests’ natural resilience. Trump is treating public lands as commodities to exploit, ignoring their ecological and recreational value.
Legal challenges are already in motion to block these destructive orders. Trump’s logging agenda is nothing more than a short-sighted attack on forests for corporate profit. America’s forests need protection, not plundering.
