In the following Voices.Earth podcast interview, Dr. Laura Haupert, Director of Research and Development for OMI Industries, discusses a new Earth Day 2017 campaign called “Care About Your Air,” which aims to educate people about the harmful ingredients in typical air fresheners.
While many of us buy home products without thinking about the health consequences, the reality is that many cleaning products are laden with dangerous chemicals.
This is especially true for air fresheners, which are filled with ingredients you can’t even pronounce, such as Phthalates, Benzisothiazolinone, and Dialkyl Sodium Sulfosuccinate.
Most air fresheners also contain ingredients that the EPA classifies as possible human carcinogens. These ingredients can cause irritation to the eyes, skin and throat, dry skin, redness and in some cases serious birth defects and cancer.
This why OMI Industries, the makers of Fresh Wave natural odor removal products, is embarking on an educational campaign called “Care About Your Air” – in time for Earth Day 2017.
On April 20 – 22, there will be street teams all throughout Chicago, giving out free samples of Fresh Wave Spray. In addition to publicizing this event, and doing a big social media effort (#CareAboutYourAir), the Fresh Wave team opted to use a .Earth domain for this campaign: CareAboutYourAir.Earth.
OMI Industries is a prime example of how it is possible to create a product that is truly safe for consumers and the environment – while also being highly effective at fighting odors.
We applaud the “Care About Your Air” campaign, and hope other consumer products manufacturers take a page from Fresh Wave’s play book. The fate of humanity, and our planet, is too precious to be compromised by products that contain dangerous chemicals.
