In order for humans to sustain life on this planet for the long-term, we need to ensure that economic forces take the health of the environment fully into account.
This is one of the reasons why EarthDay.Org is keeping with the “Invest in Our Planet” theme around building a healthy economy for its 2023 Earth Day theme. On the surface, changing economic headwinds toward creating a sustainable planet seems like a herculean task.
However, we have some good news to share.
According to a new report from the International Energy Agency (IEA), the world is entering a new industrial age of clean energy manufacturing, which could be worth hundreds of billions of dollars per year by the end of the decade, as well as generate millions of jobs in the process.
“The IEA highlighted almost two years ago that a new global energy economy was emerging rapidly,” said IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol, in this press release. “Today, it has become a central pillar of economic strategy and every country needs to identify how it can benefit from the opportunities and navigate the challenges.”
This report follows our coverage of the McKinsey Technology Trends Outlook 2022, which highlights how clean energy technology is rising to the top of overall global investments.
