Members of the .Earth Tribe Are Advancing Climate Change Education
Climate change is affecting every country on every continent, yet we are failing in the U.S. when it comes to teaching our youth about what it is, and how to fight it.
In this recent article, students told USA Today that treatment of the issue has remained limited in schools even as their demands for climate change education have grown. Today’s youth care more about climate change than they do most issues, yet its inclusion in school curriculums has in some cases been diminishing.
For example, Ron DeSantis’ administration in Florida has approved climate denial videos for classroom use in Florida and sections on climate change have become shorter and moved farther back in biology textbooks since the 2000s. This could be detrimental to the planet’s health as research shows a correlation between climate change education and the reduction of carbon emissions.
