In 2016, the historic Dakota Access Pipeline Protests made national news through a grassroots movement in response to the approved construction of Energy Transfer Partners’ Dakota Access Pipeline in the northern United States.
Fast-forward to today, and the effort lives on through Native American-owned companies that now create new ways to move away from using fossil fuels – and use the energy money saved to re-invest back into the community.
Bob Blake, a business leader who is passionate about renewable energy, has a vision for solar energy as the catalyst for positive change in the Native American community. Bob is also a member of Minnesota’s Red Lake Band of Ojibwe Indians.
In addition to offering solar installation services to Native American tribes through SolarBear.Earth, he is running for a seat on the St. Paul City Council in Ward 5 in Minnesota. He was also featured in a recent Rolling Stone article about how tribal activism is going solar.
