More than 8.3 billion metric tons of plastic have been produced globally in the last 70 years, and much of it lives on in our oceans.
In fact, eight million metric tons of plastic enters our oceans every year, causing significant harm to marine wildlife. For example, scientists have identified seabirds with more than 250 man-made objects found in their stomachs.
Fortunately, there are organizations like Cuddle.Earth that are helping to protect the lives of marine animals impacted by plastic pollution. Though its Beach Clean events the organization, gathers the tons of plastic that end up on Britain’s beaches every year. It then recycles the plastic to create a range of cuddly toys for children based on endangered marine animals.
The organization found the .Earth domain first, then came up with the name Cuddle Earth to ensure that the domain name was a core part of their overall brand.
“When we were coming up with the organization’s name, and the .Earth domain really stood out as a way to focus the image of the brand as an environmental project,” said Jemma. “The .Earth domain actually came before we had a name, and then it just made sense to put ‘Cuddle’ in front of ‘Earth,’ since we make cuddly toys and look after the planet.”
