Once again, we are seeing a dramatic rise in the use of .Earth domain names by cutting-edge geospatial companies that bring Earth observation data to the masses. In addition to companies like Soar.Earth and Astraea.Earth, we have added Spectator.Earth to the list, and this trend is continuing into 2019.
Spectator.Earth aims to simplify all of the traditionally cumbersome steps in bringing Earth observation data to life. The company offers an app that helps any organization and individuals to track and access data from multiple satellites. Users can easily find images using AI-based search and preview of high-resolution satellite images without data-heavy downloads.
Waldemar chose to use a .Earth domain name because it fits into his vision of Spectator being an observation solution for the entire planetary system.
“We have always imagined Spectator to be a planet observation system in the future, and we thought it would be cool to start with .Earth,” said Waldemar. “Once humans colonize Mars, for example, we could easily use a .Mars domain name. Let’s call it a planet-agnostic solution and the .Earth domain nicely fits into this strategy.”
